Antihéroe from Christelle Faucoulanche
This video was shot in the Tabernas Desert in Spain, where movie sets were built during the late 60’s for Spaghetti Westerns like the ones of Sergio Leone. I was interested in how these movie sets bring about the idea of shifting time and space, by reconstructing the United States' history in the context of Europe. Most of the sets are abandoned today, destroyed by weather and appear like entire cities in ruin. According to Michel Foucault’s concept of Heterotopia and Heterochrony, these places appear like localizations of utopia and a nonsense land. Behind the movie sets, such notions as the construction of cinematographic genre, gender and history are turned into the civilization's deconstruction.
